Edit: I could probably link the original one, but this is much cuter. It's only a short bit at the end though.

If i recall, the original song is from a Swedish pop band called Caramel, but the "speedycake remix" which is the more popular version, is from a visual novel called Popotan. Hence, it is and is not anime related :P

Vocaloid =/= anime.

False (though the song is originally Swedish). The remix is not from Popotan, but some crazy internet denizen looped a 4 second clip from the Popotan OP with a remix of the Caramelldansen, in the same manner that Orihime leek-twirling is looped to Ievan Polka.

Guys, learn to google. :P Also, if Caramelldansen and Ievan Polka are 'anime songs' because they've been linked to anime-related footage, then every single song ever used in AMVs would also be 'anime songs'.

If vocaloid =/= anime related then I don't know what is. Also I know the history of the song and how it came to be. But it really only took off due to the internet meme. It's like a movie soundtrack, ie fly me to the moon. It's an english song that was used by a japanese anime. It's identifiable by both genre. Carameldansen was really made popular by that simple internet meme around the world. AMV are different because it's not really recognisable unless you've seen that. Just because something has not been created by a studio, doesn't make it any less anime related.

What I do know is that you should maybe read my post again. :P

"Anime" =/= "anime-related". (This time, "=/=" means "while of a similar nature, things that fall into one category may not necessarily fall into both categories", by virtue of them not being exactly the same thing".)

I do say that vocaloid original songs don't count as anime songs, because by most definitions, anime songs are written/sung by 'professionals' with the intention of it being linked to a show/movie/series. The majority of vocaloid songs are just written for a computer to sing, no matter how cutely they do it. (I suppose Black Rock Shooter counts as the exception that proves the rule?)

And yes, this is the more or less entirely my point. While anime-related, Caramelldansen was in fact not written for an anime, or sung for an anime or officially linked to an anime (Popotan was a game, even), and so it is not an "anime song" (by my definition, or even the OP's, since he asks for "the best piece of anime music from a movie or Series".)

Not by most definition. It's just by your definition. And by show, if you mean a full scale concert with 25000 people then yes, Vocaloid did have one recently. And a damn impressiveone too.

I don't consider vocaloids anime songs because they don't feature in an anime. Like, OP/ED themes, or in the case of K-On or BECK (beck did original music right, or did they just do covers) or Haruhi, songs that are performed in the show, or even those mood songs that sometimes play at drama moments in episodes.

Even if Vocaloids one day becomes an anime, that would not automatically convey anime status to their entire back catalogue, IMO. Until then, it's just a bizarre subgenre of JPop. :P

So not in OP/ED then not anime song? That's pretty rubbish imo. Anime is a very vast and broad genre. In which case, you would rule out God Knows from Haruhi which was pretty much the signature song.

I just listed "in the case of ... Haruhi, songs that are preformed in the show" in the same category as OP/ED: anime songs. :P

Then when you buy an anime OST 90% of the songs on them are not considered as anime songs then.

They're usually Character Songs (which I class different) or BGM's on OST's, right? BGM's are in, since they're (presumably) in the series. Character Songs are like Extra's on a DVD, bonus stuff for the fan, but not something someone just watching would experience. :P

Well that's ok, since you'll still recognise the music without having to look it up. :P

All this just means is that CaramalDansen or whatever isn't anime music. Fans may accept it, but it's not in my mind.

Also, you seem to enjoy splitting hair Ryo. :P

Touhou is not anime music, because it hasn't been in an anime. I don't see how this is that hard to comprehend. It's like "it's not sci-fi just because it has mecha in it".

Splitting hair is when you ask "What about a BGM with a vocal track?".

I think you are being intentionally dense. :P
